April 18 will mark the release of The Rising Tide, the second DLC for Final Fantasy XVI.

A new addition to a recent entry in the Final Fantasy series, titled “The Rising Tide,” will be arriving on April 18. This paid expansion for Final Fantasy XVI was announced at a PAX East panel and will cost $20. Players can also purchase both “The Rising Tide” and the previous paid DLC, “Echoes of the Fallen,” for $25 through a discounted expansion pass.

“The Rising Tide” will take players on a journey to the hidden land of Mysidia where they will uncover the tragic history of a forgotten people while searching for the long-lost Eikon of water, Leviathan. The expansion’s storyline occurs before the ending of the main game.

Players will have the opportunity to wield various water-based attacks, including a “sea-spitting serpent.” Additionally, a new endgame mode called Kairos Gate will be unlocked for those who complete “The Rising Tide” and the main game. This mode consists of 20 levels of increasing difficulty where players can earn new materials and weapons for Clive.

Alongside the release of “The Rising Tide,” Square Enix will also launch a free update for Final Fantasy XVI on April 18, introducing quality-of-life upgrades such as the Quick Complete option that allows players to instantly return to the quest giver NPC, a Skill Set feature for saving Feat and Ability loadouts, and the ability to remap controls for improved accessibility.
