One Microsoft leader to lead both Windows and Surface teams after merger

Microsoft has consolidated its Windows experiences and Windows devices teams into one division, appointing company veteran Pavan Davuluri to lead it. Davuluri has been leading the Surface team since last year, following the split of Windows experiences and devices after Panos Panay’s departure.

After another departure, former Windows experiences lead Mikhail Parakhin, in charge of Bing search engine and advertising business, has decided to explore new roles. It’s unclear if he is leaving Microsoft entirely or looking for new opportunities within the company. It’s noteworthy that he stepped down a week after Mustafa Suleyman, Deepmind co-founder, was hired by Microsoft and asked Parakhin to report directly to him.

The merger of the two teams will allow Microsoft to take a comprehensive approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices for the AI era. Davuluri now leads both the web experiences and devices team, with the former still reporting to Suleyman, who oversees Microsoft’s AI efforts. During the transition period, Parakhin will report to company CTO Kevin Scott.
