xAI’s Grok chatbot, the product of Elon Musk’s company, will soon be available to X’s Premium subscribers. Musk announced this expanded availability through a tweet and shared an instructional video on how to engage with the chatbot on the X website. Grok was previously exclusive to X’s Premium+ subscribers but will now be accessible to Premium subscribers, making it more affordable at $8 a month or $84 per year compared to the $16 monthly or $168 yearly cost for Premium+.
Musk’s xAI has open sourced its Grok-1 model, the technology behind the chatbot, in March. Prior to this move, Musk had filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman, accusing them of prioritizing profits over their non-profit mission. In response, OpenAI stated that there was no agreement with Musk to open source their technology and clarified that Musk was aware of their transition to a for-profit entity and had been involved in the planning process, even expressing interest in a merger with Tesla.
