Snapchat has introduced a new AI-powered feature for subscribers: Bitmoji versions of pets. Users can snap a photo of their pet to create a cartoon-like avatar to go along with their Bitmoji in the Snap Map.
Users will have a few different options for the AI-generated images after sharing a pet photo. While it may not offer as much customization as human Bitmojis, it should allow users to create a likeness of their real-life pet. There is no mention of Snap introducing branded pet accessories for animal avatars like they do for human Bitmojis.
This addition showcases Snap’s embrace of AI in its subscription service. Since launching Snapchat+ in 2022, the company has utilized generative AI features like the MyAI assistant and camera-powered features. Snapchat+ has accumulated over 7 million subscribers as of December.
In addition, Snap has rolled out updates for non-subscribers as well. The app now includes a template feature for easier clip editing, swipe-based gestures for faster snap sending and editing, and support for longer video uploads for Stories and Spotlight. Users can now capture three-minute in-app videos and upload up to five-minute videos.
