The disappointment was palpable as one of the world’s top race car drivers, Kyle Larson, walked briskly down pit lane with his head down, trying to escape Charlotte Motor Speedway as quickly as possible. The weather had ruined his chance to do the “Double” — competing in both the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.

Rain and lightning led to the NASCAR race being halted, dashing any hopes of Larson salvaging the day. The Double, a dream that had been months in the making, slipped away due to forces beyond Larson’s control.
