Kaser Focus: VR Games Were the Highlight of My Week

VR games

This past week has been an exciting one for gamers, with major companies like Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo showcasing their upcoming games. But there was one more group that had something to offer—the VR crowd. The UploadVR Summer Showcase gave us a peek at some exciting VR games, including Pencil!, a mixed-reality app that teaches users how to draw, By Grit Alone, a horror FPS set on a derelict spaceship, and Hide the Corpse, a 70s-aesthetic game where you must hide a corpse. The highlight for me was Maestro, a rhythm game where you conduct an orchestra, and Cold VR, an inverse Superhot where time moves when you stand still. Despite my usual skepticism about the future of VR and Sony’s rumored waning interest in PSVR2, the ambitious and varied trailers from VR game developers filled me with optimism.

In other news, Baldur’s Gate 3 won yet another Game of the Year award, solidifying its place as a fan favorite. I had the opportunity to interview Adrian Ledda, the head of inclusive game design at Activision Blizzard, about Pride month celebrations and the importance of feeling accepted and included in the gaming industry. It was an inspiring conversation that highlighted the progress being made towards a more inclusive and diverse gaming landscape. Additionally, fans of Dead Rising and Resident Evil can rejoice as both franchises are making a comeback with a remaster and a release on GOG, respectively. It seems like zombies are the flavor of the month.

On a personal note, I feel like this week marks the beginning of a less hectic period in the release calendar, giving me a chance to catch up on games I’ve started but haven’t finished. It’s also an opportunity to explore titles on Xbox Game Pass that have been waiting for my attention. However, there is one game, Shadow of the Erdtree, that has eluded me so far. But don’t worry, I’ll conquer it one of these days!
