Zeekr, a Chinese automotive brand owned by Geely, has recently unveiled its latest all-electric SUV, the 7X. This mid-size SUV aims to cater to a wide audience and is designed to travel further, charge faster, and provide class-leading acceleration figures compared to its competitors.
Unlike its previous offerings of premium saloons and ultra-luxurious MPVs, Zeekr has decided to tap into the popularity of SUVs amongst consumers in the western world. The 7X focuses on maximizing interior roominess and comfort, with a bespoke electric platform that prioritizes head and legroom for all occupants. It also boasts 32 individual storage compartments to conveniently store various items.
The 7X doesn’t hold back when it comes to performance. It is equipped with silicon carbide-powered e-motors that allow the SUV to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds, faster than most modern sports cars. The entry-level model features a 75kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a claimed range of 605km (376 miles) on a single charge. For those in need of more range, a longer-range variant offers a 100kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack capable of achieving a staggering 780km (484 miles) on a single charge. This puts it in the same league as the Lucid Air Grand Touring model and surpasses the current longest-range Tesla Model S.
While there is no official pricing information or specific release date mentioned for the Zeekr 7X, Chinese customers can expect to start receiving their cars as early as next month. Zeekr is known for undercutting its rivals in terms of pricing, so a competitive strategy is expected when the 7X is introduced to markets in Europe and beyond. Although Zeekr is currently not sold in the USA, the brand hasn’t ruled out the possibility, even with the recent trade tariffs imposed by the Biden administration.
The Zeekr 7X also emphasizes advanced onboard technology. It features dual Nvidia Orin System-on-a-Chip (SoC) computers to collect extensive data from lidar, high-definition cameras, and millimeter-wave radars. This technology not only enables high levels of autonomous driving where permitted by local laws but also supports advanced safety assistance systems. In addition, the next-generation LFP battery packs are designed to charge from 10% to 80% in just 10.5 minutes with the use of ultra-fast chargers.
Zeekr’s introduction of the 7X demonstrates that Chinese manufacturers are at the forefront of EV technology. With its impressive performance, extended range, and advanced onboard tech, this all-electric SUV showcases Zeekr’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric mobility.
In conclusion, the Zeekr 7X presents a compelling option for consumers in the global EV market. Its focus on comfort, performance, and advanced technology sets it apart from its competitors. With its long-range capabilities, fast charging capabilities, and potential competitive pricing, the 7X has the potential to be a game-changer in the electric SUV segment. As the demand for EVs continues to grow, it will be interesting to see how Zeekr’s latest offering fares in the market and if it can elevate the brand to a global presence.
