PlayStation Cancels Release of New Game ‘Concord,’ Plans to Issue Refunds to Players

Concord, new game, Players, PlayStation, Refund, shut down

PlayStation has made the difficult decision to take its new game “Concord” offline just two weeks after its launch on Aug. 23. The team-based first-person shooter game, developed by Firewalk, failed to attract a significant audience on PlayStation 5 and PC, with only 30 current in-game players at the time of publication. Despite drawing comparisons to popular multiplayer shooter “Overwatch,” “Concord” struggled to maintain player interest and ranked poorly on PlayStation’s weekly sales charts.

In “Concord,” players form a team of space outlaws aboard the spacecraft Northstar for online games against another team. However, due to the small player base, finding matches became increasingly difficult. Firewalk Studios game director Ryan Ellis expressed gratitude to the community for their support and feedback, acknowledging that certain aspects of the game did not resonate with players as intended. As a result, the decision was made to take the game offline starting Sept. 6, 2024, to explore ways to better serve the player base.

Players who purchased “Concord” will receive a full refund through the original payment method, depending on where the game was purchased. Refunds will result in the loss of access to the game. This move signals a commitment to quality and player satisfaction, as PlayStation and the developers work to improve the game for future releases.
