After a slow first half, the Lynn Fighting Knights picked up the pace with four unanswered goals in the second half to secure a 4-0 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in the Bears’ season opener. Despite Lynn dominating in shots during the first half, both teams went into halftime with a 0-0 deadlock. The Fighting Knights eventually broke the stalemate with a penalty kick in the 49th minute and went on to score three more goals within a span of seven minutes to seal the win.
It was a tough outing for Lenoir-Rhyne, as they struggled to keep up with Lynn’s offensive firepower. The Bears received two yellow cards in the match, while Lynn was shown five yellows and a red. Junior Cathal Carney’s five saves were not enough to prevent Lynn from outshooting Lenoir-Rhyne 18-4, with a 9-2 edge in shots-on-goal.
Looking beyond the box score, it was a game of firsts for many of the Bears players. Eight of the 11 starters made their first appearance for the team, with nine players making their overall debut in the match. Additionally, this was the first-ever meeting between Lenoir-Rhyne and Lynn Fighting Knights.
As Lenoir-Rhyne continues their Florida trip, they will face off against Nova Southeastern in their home opener. The Bears have a challenging history against the Sharks, with a 0-2-1 record, including a 1-0 defeat last year. Despite the setback, Lenoir-Rhyne will look to bounce back and secure a positive result in their upcoming matchup.
