Canada Soccer introduces higher level of competition with PDP Championship

Canada Soccer, competition, delivers, new level, PDP Championship

Canada Soccer’s new Player-Development Program Championship is set to elevate the level of national competition for youth soccer players and organizations across Canada. The tournament, scheduled for August 14-18, 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta, will feature 28 youth teams competing in the PDP U-17 Cup and PDP U-15 Cup.

With a total of 50 matches taking place at the Bill Gilhespy Sports Complex, the championship matches will be played back-to-back on the final day of the tournament. Teams will qualify from a pool of 155 youth teams from various leagues across the country.

This championship presents a great opportunity for young Canadian players to showcase their skills and learn from the national team staff present at the event. The staff will provide insights on player pathways, profiles, playing philosophies, and training methodologies, offering a valuable learning experience for both players and coaches.

Canada Soccer will also provide match analysis services using Sports AI technology to support team and player development. This analysis will help coaches optimize performance and provide players with valuable feedback and scouting opportunities.

Several top youth teams have already qualified for the championship, including past national champions like Burnaby FC and Calgary Foothills SC. This competition, along with other national amateur tournaments hosted by Canada Soccer throughout the year, contributes to the growth and development of soccer in the country.

Overall, Canada Soccer’s Player-Development Program Championship is a vital component in the network of programs aimed at promoting high-level youth soccer in Canada. The standards-based approach ensures that participating organizations uphold the requirements for quality youth soccer programming.
