I have a simple and minimalist taste when it comes to my preferences. I prefer plain dark t-shirts and I dislike beers that try to imitate flavors like chocolate or mango. When it comes to iPhones, I strongly believe that Space Gray is the best color option. This is why the rumors of a new color for the iPhone 16 Pro called ‘Desert Titanium’ do not sit well with me.
I have a preference for aesthetics that are clean and sleek. A white room, for example, is visually pleasing to me. The Desert Titanium color doesn’t resonate with my taste because it seems to be a bronze shade. While I don’t have anything against bronze as a material, I currently own a Christopher Ward C63 Dune bronze watch and have noticed how it develops a unique patina over time. The color transforms from a slightly yellow hue to a warm brown, which adds character to the watch.
However, the titanium chassis of the iPhone 15 Pro Max that I currently use is resistant to staining or marking. It has even survived serious drops without any significant damage. Unfortunately, this also means that the color of the phone remains unchanged. This is something I miss when I compare it to the iPhone 13 Pro, which has a beautiful aesthetic.
The Desert Titanium iPhone 16 Pro, if it does exist, would most likely retain its initial color without any natural variation. This means that the phone would be stuck with a color tone that is neither the appealing buttery yellow of caramel nor the warm glow of gold. Instead, it would have a sickly in-between shade that I find unappealing.
Looking at the iPhone 16 Pro lineup, there are four colors in total: white, black, gold, and gray. Out of these options, the Desert Titanium color is similar to a dark gold shade, reminiscent of the old purple color. It is relatively discreet and deep in its hue.
Personally, I have a negative perception of the color bronze. In my opinion, it is associated with being a runner-up or a loser. Bronze medals, for example, are awarded to those who have missed the top positions. As someone who has won a bronze medal in a 200 meters freestyle swimming race, I can attest to the disappointment that comes with being labeled a runner-up.
The only exception to my aversion to bronze is the color of the watch mentioned earlier. Even then, I find the desire for the watch to quickly age and develop a patina somewhat forced.
Considering all of these factors, I remain unconvinced by the idea of a Desert Titanium iPhone 16 Pro. However, I am open to changing my mind if I see the phone in person. I can be quite flighty and my opinion can shift based on firsthand experience. Furthermore, it’s important to note that there is a chance for this rumored shade to never actually be released.
Aside from the Desert Titanium color, the other rumored colors for the iPhone 16 Pro seem more appealing to me. The gray, white, and Space Black options are in line with my preference for clean and sleek aesthetics. Unfortunately, there is still no sign of the beloved Space Gray shade, which disappoints me.
