A massive apartment building in Lomita caught fire on Saturday evening and firefighters from the Los Angeles County Fire Department are on the scene battling the blaze. The fire started at around 6:45 p.m. at the Vista Verde apartment building on Palos Verdes Drive N. By 7:30 p.m., a large portion of the building was engulfed in flames, with parts of the roof completely burned through. Firefighters used ladders to shoot water down on the fire. The fire initially started in a few small areas but quickly spread throughout the building. The third alarm was called at 8:30 p.m. and all residents were safely evacuated. The cause of the fire is still unknown. More updates will be provided as they become available.
