Netflix surprises fans with unexpected release of Godzilla: Minus One

Godzilla Minus One, a film written and directed by Takashi Yamakazi, takes viewers back to the origins of the iconic giant radioactive kaiju. Set in the aftermath of World War II, specifically after the US nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the story follows a kamikaze pilot named Kōichi Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki). Shikishima decides to divert from his suicide mission and land on Odo Island, ultimately becoming one of the few survivors of a Godzilla attack on the island.

The film was met with critical acclaim upon its release in December, with some calling it a “spectacular disaster movie” that surpasses expectations. Godzilla Minus One also received several awards, including an Academy Award for its impressive visual effects. This movie delves into the complexities of human decisions during times of war and disaster, while also paying homage to the original Godzilla storyline.
