We are now getting more iPhone 16 leaks, with the latest one stemming from case designs. A leaked case molding showcases the potential rear camera redesign for the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. This leak suggests that Apple may be going for a vertical pill-shaped look for the two lenses on the back of the more affordable iPhone models.
While leaks are not always accurate until Apple officially reveals the new iPhone models, multiple leaks pointing in the same direction could indicate some credibility. The vertical camera alignment has been used by Apple in the past, notably with the iPhone 12 in 2020.
One potential reason for this redesign could be to support spatial video recording. Spatial video is currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max but not on the cheaper models released in 2023. By aligning the dual cameras vertically, Apple might be looking to bring spatial video recording to a wider range of handsets.
It’s also possible that Apple is simply looking to refresh the design with this new alignment. As we await the official launch, it will be interesting to see if these leaks hold true and how the new iPhone 16 models will incorporate these changes.
