Norris Leads Rain-Impacted First Practice Session in Montréal for F1

F1, first practice session, Montréal, Norris, rain-affected

The first practice session for the 2024 FIA Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix got off to a shaky start as rain and a hailstorm disrupted the proceedings. The newly resurfaced track had to be cleared of standing water, causing a delay in the session. Once the pit lane opened, drivers had to navigate changing track conditions, with some starting on Wet tires and later switching to Intermediates as the rain cleared.

The session saw McLaren’s Lando Norris set the fastest time, followed by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. The track began to dry out towards the end of the session, leading to a flurry of fast laps on Soft tires. Norris managed to steal the top spot with a blistering lap time, pushing Sainz and Leclerc down the order.

It was an eventful session with Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu crashing out and causing a red flag. Despite the challenging conditions, drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Sergio Pérez showed their skill and adaptability on track. The session provided valuable data for teams to analyze and make adjustments for the rest of the weekend.

Overall, the ever-changing weather conditions in Montreal posed a significant challenge for the drivers, but also showcased their talent and the importance of strategy in Formula 1. The results of the first practice session set the stage for an exciting weekend of racing at the Canadian Grand Prix.
