The recent trial involving the tragic beating death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis has concluded with guilty verdicts for three police officers involved. The community has expressed their thoughts and condolences for Nichols’ family on social media following the verdict.
Demetrius Haley was found guilty of several charges including using excessive force and witness tampering. Tadarrius Bean and Justin Smith Jr. were also found guilty of witness tampering. Emmitt Martin III and Desmond Mills Jr. had taken plea deals before the trial.
The upcoming sentencing hearings for all three officers are scheduled for January 22. District Attorney Steve Mulroy commended the US attorney’s office for their work in holding law enforcement accountable for their actions.
