An insight has been provided into the growth of HBM memory sales, revealing that it is expected to constitute a double-digit percentage of DRAM chip sales this year. This projection represents a significant increase in sales for this high-bandwidth, high-priced memory.
SK hynix’s CEO has mentioned that they anticipate HBM sales to make up a double-digit percentage of their DRAM chip sales by 2024. This aligns with estimates from TrendForce, which suggest that HBM will contribute to 20.1% of DRAM revenue in 2024, surpassing its 8.4% revenue share in 2023.
Although SK hynix does not regularly disclose its DRAM revenue breakdown by memory type, it is likely that they will generate billions in HBM revenue for 2024, potentially exceeding the billion-dollar mark achieved in 2023. With SK hynix accounting for approximately 50% of the HBM market, they could earn up to $8.45 billion in HBM sales in 2024 if industry revenue reaches $84.150 billion as predicted by TrendForce.
All three major DRAM manufacturers are expected to increase their HBM production capacity this year to meet the growing demand for AI servers. Despite competition from other vendors like Micron, SK hynix’s strong position in the HBM market is likely to remain stable. Overall, significant growth in HBM revenue is anticipated for all memory makers in the near future.
