Spotify introduces educational video courses in the UK

There was a time when different platforms were used for music, education, and more. However, many companies are now trying to offer a variety of services to stay competitive. One such example is Spotify, which has announced a test for video-based learning courses. This new feature adds to the platform’s existing music, podcasts, and audiobooks lineup.

Spotify has partnered with several content providers like BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Thinkific Labs Inc., and Skillshare to offer content in categories such as making music, getting creative, learning business, and healthy living. The platform aims to reach a wider audience by providing educational creators with a new platform to showcase their video content. Around half of Spotify users have engaged with self-help or educational podcasts.

The test courses are currently only available to UK users, with free and premium subscribers receiving at least two free lessons per course. The pricing for the courses ranges from £20 to £80, and users can access them on mobile or desktop. The pricing and availability may change if the feature moves past the testing phase.

This move towards video-based courses comes after Spotify introduced music videos in beta, which are available in select tracks in 11 countries, including the UK (but not the US).
