The Texas women’s basketball team’s journey in the Elite Eight came to an end as they were defeated by NC State with a score of 76-66. Despite the loss, Texas finished the season with an impressive 33-5 record, marking their highest number of wins since their national championship season in 1985-86.
Freshman Madison Booker stood out, leading the team with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Booker set a new program record for freshman assists with 185 for the season. Additionally, Shay Holle and Aaliyah Moore made their mark by scoring 12 and 10 points respectively and were voted to the All-Tournament Team for the Portland 4 Regional.
Despite facing an 18-point deficit in the second quarter, Texas managed to cut the lead throughout the game. They utilized a 7-0 run in the third quarter and continued to chip away at NC State’s advantage. However, they were unable to close in on the lead in the final moments of the game.
This season was filled with achievements for the Longhorns, including reaching the Elite Eight for the third time in four years and winning the Big 12 Tournament championship. Madison Booker also made history by becoming the first freshman in Big 12 women’s basketball history to earn the Big 12 Player of the Year award.
These accomplishments highlight the strength and talent of the Texas women’s basketball team despite their loss in the Elite Eight. The team has much to be proud of as they reflect on a successful season.
