Less than two weeks ago, Darrell Johnson made a commitment to Alabama. However, he decided to visit Auburn on Saturday. The Eastman, Ga., native took his first trip to the Plains for a spring visit shortly after his pledge to Alabama. Despite his commitment to the Crimson Tide, Johnson expressed that he wants to keep his recruitment open.
During his visit to Auburn, Johnson wanted to get a better sense of the atmosphere and have more in-depth conversations with the coaching staff, particularly defensive coordinator DJ Durkin. Johnson praised Coach Durkin for his enthusiasm and positive energy, as well as the strong coaching staff he has assembled. He had the opportunity to witness Durkin’s defense in action during a scrimmage and was impressed by the intensity and competitiveness of the players.
Auburn’s message to Johnson, a 6-foot-3 linebacker, has been to continue visiting the campus, learn about the defense, and potentially become part of the team. Johnson is being recruited by Auburn as a dime linebacker and plans to make an official visit at a later date. He is also considering other programs such as North Carolina, UCF, and Florida State as potential options.
