Google suggests that by this fall, Apple will support RCS

Apple, fall, Google, RCS, suggests, support

Apple is reportedly set to introduce Rich Communication Services (RCS) support for iPhones in the upcoming iOS 18 update this fall. The news was briefly mentioned on a Google Messages page, with a section titled “Better messaging for all” labeled as “coming soon on iOS.”
Although the page no longer displays this information, the source code still contains references to Apple adopting RCS in 2024. The move is expected to enhance the messaging experience for users across different platforms.
Last year, Apple had confirmed its plans to integrate RCS support, without specifying a timeline. This decision came after Google had been pushing for Apple to adopt RCS to improve communication between Android and iPhone users.
The potential integration of RCS on iPhones could allow Android users to send high-resolution media to iPhone users. Google had previously introduced new RCS features such as profile setups, Photomoji, and improved audio quality for voice notes, demonstrating the increasing popularity of RCS messaging.
The revelation of Apple’s RCS compatibility timeline coincides with legal action taken by the U.S. Department of Justice against Apple over alleged monopolistic practices, with the issue of “green bubbles” in messaging being highlighted as a concern affecting user security.
