The release of Logitech’s Signature AI Edition M750 mouse has caused some disappointment among tech enthusiasts. The most notable feature of the mouse is a button that launches the ChatGPT prompt builder, a software feature recently added to Logitech’s peripherals configuration app, Options+. However, apart from this button, the M750 is practically identical to its predecessor, the Logitech Signature M650. The addition of just one button does not seem substantial enough to warrant a whole new product release.

Logitech claims that the M750 is not the same as the M650 and that they use different electronic components. However, many mice have buttons south of the scroll wheel that can be programmed to launch an app or toggle DPI. Logitech’s explanation does little to justify the need for a new mouse, as other models already offer similar features.

The introduction of the M750 raises the question of how many computer input devices actually require AI-related features. While AI is currently a buzzword in the tech industry, it is essential to consider whether these features are genuinely useful and necessary for everyday users. Logitech’s ChatGPT prompt builder, for example, may be interesting for less technically savvy individuals who want some guidance in using ChatGPT. However, for those already familiar with generative AI, instant access to ChatGPT may not be a pressing need.

Logitech is not the only company eager to integrate AI access into hardware. Nothing, a tech company, is also looking to provide quick access to ChatGPT for its customers. Nothing has integrated ChatGPT into its earbuds and smartphones, allowing users to access knowledge directly from the devices they use most. The feature requires the latest Nothing OS and a Nothing phone with ChatGPT installed. While this integration may seem less intrusive, it remains to be seen how many users actually requested this feature and how reliably it will function.

It is crucial for tech companies to consider the practicality and usefulness of AI features in their products. While AI has the potential to enhance user experiences, it should not be included for the sake of following trends. Consumers value products that offer real innovation and improve their daily lives. As more companies integrate AI into their devices, it is important to assess whether these features genuinely contribute to a better user experience or if they are simply marketing gimmicks.
