In North America, a Tesla staff member will demonstrate the automaker’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology before customers can take their car home. CEO Elon Musk has mandated that Tesla stores install and activate the latest FSD software and take customers on a test ride to showcase the technology. To access Tesla’s FSD technology, customers must pay $12,000 on top of the car’s cost. This includes Autopilot features, autosteer on city streets, and the ability to identify stop signs and traffic lights to slow the vehicle down. Tesla has faced criticism and investigations over its Autopilot and FSD technologies, including complaints from the California DMV and investigations by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Department of Justice has also started looking into Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD features.
