Billy Joel Fans Upset with CBS over 100th MSG Show Broadcast Cut

Sunday night on April 14, Billy Joel was scheduled to make his first-ever appearance on prime time network television with his concert special, The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time. Despite his legendary status and fifty years in the music industry, this was a major milestone for the Piano Man.

However, due to CBS’s live coverage of the Masters golf tournament, the broadcast of Joel’s concert was delayed. To make matters worse, the network cut off the climactic ending of the show to switch to local news, leaving many viewers disappointed and frustrated.

While CBS issued an apology for the timing error and promised to rebroadcast the concert in its entirety, fans were still upset about missing the conclusion of Joel’s performance. The abrupt cut-off was likened to the infamous 1968 incident when NBC switched from a football game to the children’s movie Heidi.

Despite the technical glitch, Joel remains a beloved artist with a loyal fan base. He is set to perform at Madison Square Garden for two more shows before embarking on a stadium tour this summer. The incident may have left a sour taste in the mouths of fans, but Joel’s talent and enduring legacy are undeniable.
